I’ve moved a lot. I’ve lived in apartments in Boston, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and Hong Kong. So believe me when I say I know a little bit about apartments. I’m also the type that doesn’t like to bring stuff with him when I move, so each new apartment means buying new essentials, like a vacuum. Needless to say I’ve bought a lot of new vacuums. And, let me tell you, a swiffer is no substitute for a powerful vacuum. I love my swiffer too, but it can’t completely replace a vacuum. Plus all those swiffer refill sheets add up to be pricey!
When shopping for a new vacuum, I’d consider a few things.
1. It needs to be reasonably priced. I was always looking for something less than $50.
2. It needed to be small. I didn’t have a lot of space, so I needed something that wouldn’t take a lot of storage room. Usually these would be handheld vacuums.
3. Powerful! We’ve all tried small vacuums that couldn’t pick up one speck of dust because it barely had any suction power. I needed something small and powerful!
That being said, I’ve compiled a list of what I think are the best vacuums for your apartment.
1. Eureka Hand-Held Vacuum, 71B – This thing is hand down the best vacuum for my apartment. I won’t be throwing away my vacuum and buying a new one at the next apartment – this one is small enough to pack. I remember the first time I tried it out; I was shocked by how powerful this little one is. Plus, it has a handy nozzle attachment to get into corners of rooms, or any other small place (like udner the refrigerator). It’s a great value at less than $40. It isn’t cordless, but it has a really long cord so that you can go room to room without having to switch outlets.
2. Black & Decker CHV1510 Dustbuster 15.6-Volt Cordless Cyclonic Hand Vacuum - I’ve had positive experiences with Black & Decker products, and this one was no different. This isn’t the one-stop solution for your apartment since it only has a nozzle attachment, but it’s the best choice for getting in hard to reach places like on top of furniture, on window sills and mantles, etc. Plus it’s cordless.
3. BISSELL Cleanview Deluxe Corded Handheld Vacuum, 47R51 – The Bissell Cleanview Deluxe is a powerful cordless handheld. I’ve found that it works great for picking up pet hair (I have a cat). My one gripe with it is it’s shape – I just don’t like the form factor. It’s still a great deal for less than forty bucks.
That’s it folks! I’ve tried a lot of clunkers, but these are the best ones I’ve found for apartments. Now get cleaning!
